Jewelweeds – Orange jewelweed (Impatiens capensis) Plants
An annual wildflower with charming young leaves that are often beaded with dew. Grows quickly and blooms from mid-summer to fall with orange-spotted flowers. It is an important late summer nectar source for hummingbirds and bumblebees. When the seeds ripen the pods explode dispersing several small seeds that taste like walnuts. Fleshy stem can be rubbed on rashes and insect bites to relieve itching. Self-sows readily but is very easy to pull. Looks beautiful planted with ferns.
