This tree species has large showy clusters of fragrant, white - yellowish flowers that are extremely attractive to pollinators including hummingbirds. Large palmate leaves with a nice yellow/orange fall color. 

This member of the horse chestnut family produces a large nut encased in a spiky husk, but unlike some of its cousins is not edible. 

Native to: Eastern US and Canada, western PA to IA south to AL and AR

Growing conditions: full sun - part shade, medium soil moisture

Natural habitat: forest edges, forests
