A small white wildflower usually found in boreal coniferous forests. The white flowers bloom in spring, followed by the formation of red berries into the fall. These berries are eaten by birds and small mammals, especially Ruffed Grouse, mice and chipmunks.
Native to: Maine - Canada to North central and eastern US.
Growing conditions: Shade to part shade, medium to medium-wet soil.

These seeds need a winter or cold period to germinate - a minimum of 120 days below 40°F in moist soil (or sand or vermiculite). Sow these seeds immediately upon receipt. Sow outdoors in pots from November through February. This species is challenging to grow, and a great species for more experienced seed-sowers.
