A member of the buttercup family, this perennial herb is endangered in the wild due to over-harvesting for its golden roots. Growing in rocky, deciduous forests, its small white flowers bloom in mid-spring and ripen to inedible, red raspberry-like fruits.
Native to Maine: no, small populations in southern and western New England
Growing conditions: Shade - Rich deciduous forests with high fertility and moisture.
Natural habitat: Rare plant of the eastern deciduous forest.

Sow these seeds immediately upon receipt, outdoors in pots November through January. Requires a minimum of 120 days below 40°F in moist soil (or sand or vermiculite) - look for germination in the second spring. This species is challenging to grow, and a great species for more experienced seed-sowers.
