Loose clumps of smooth, light green foliage are covered with blue-petaled daisy-like flowers with bright yellow centers. Blooms from late summer to fall. Flowers attract many pollinating insects, and birds relish the seeds.

Growing conditions: Sun to part shade in dry soil
Grows up to: 18"-3'
Blooms: In late summer
Pairs well with: Butterfly milkweed, foxglove beardtongue, sundial lupine, black-eyed coneflower, foxglove beardtongue, flax-leaved aster, and little bluestem
Natural habitat: Dry, open woods and fields; disturbed areas and roadsides
Seeds per packet: 50-100
These seeds do not need a winter or cold period to germinate - the rate of germination may be higher if the seeds are exposed to a period of cold, but it is not required. Sow outdoors in pots from November through April. A great species for beginner seed-sowers.
