An upright perennial with light green angular stems. Plants are clothed in lovely anise scented leaves. In summer, lavender to purple flower spikes draw a crowd of bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
Native to: Southern Canadian provinces and the Northwest Territory. Non-native to Maine.
Growing conditions: Plants thrive in sunny well drained sites.
Natural habitat: Upland sections of prairies, shrubby barrens, dry upland woods and thickets.
Grows up to: 2'-4'
Blooms: Summer
Pairs well with: Black-eyed coneflower, Switch panicgrass (Panicum vergatum), and Little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium)
